Anna Eames DeSalvo

The Origin Story

Raised in Golden Valley, Minnesota, Anna was born with fibular hemimelia—a congenital condition affecting her right leg. With only three toes on her right foot, a compromised ankle joint, and hip dysplasia, she underwent 28 surgical procedures throughout her childhood and adolescence at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare.

High-impact sports caused significant pain, so she turned to the pool. Swimming provided a gravity-neutral environment where her orthopedic differences didn't limit her. What began as a therapeutic outlet became a fierce competitive passion—and ultimately a pathway to the highest level of international competition.

That same resilience, forged through years of surgeries and rehabilitation, now powers her work in healthcare. The girl who spent her childhood navigating surgical wards grew into a woman determined to ensure no patient faces systemic barriers to life-saving care.
